King of the hill: a point on the map worth holding, which makes it a point
worth fighting over. It is the part of HeartGen where everybody meets.
Timings and rewards are not documented on the site yet — ask on Discord for
the current ones. What follows is about how to approach it, which does not go
stale.
The thing nobody tells you
Most people who lose at KoTH lose before they arrive.
They come straight from grinding, carrying everything they earned that
session, with no plan for what happens if it goes badly. The hill did not beat
them; their own inventory did.
Bring what you are willing to lose. Leave the rest at home. This is not
caution, it is the difference between a bad fight and a bad week.
Going alone
Possible, and usually not how it ends well. If you are alone:
- Arrive early and watch. Who shows up, how many, what they have.
- Contest late. Holding a point is expensive; taking it from someone who
has already been fighting for it is not.
- Have an exit. Know which direction you are leaving in before you need
to.
Going as a group
Two people who agreed on a plan beat four who did not.
The plan does not need to be clever. "You hold, I flank" is a plan. "We all
run in" is what everybody else is doing.
Agree in advance who gets what if you win. A group that argues about rewards
afterwards does not show up together next time.
Losing well
You will lose most of them, especially early. That is fine as long as each one
costs you a manageable amount and teaches you something about who plays here.
Keep track of who wins, what they bring, and when they show up. On a mode
where the same twenty people contest the same point, that information
compounds faster than your generators do.
What the rules still say
All of them. KoTH is not a suspension of the rulebook. Cheats are cheats,
insults are insults, and a fight over a hill is not a licence for either.

A thread with real fight write-ups is worth more to a new player than any
guide. Including the losses — especially the losses.
