A plan for the first hour. Not the only way to do it, but a way that does not
end with you at reduced hearts wondering what happened.
Minutes 0–5: leave
Get away from spawn. Not a little — properly. Spawn on a lifesteal server is
where people go to find someone weaker than them, and on day one that is you.
Pick a direction, hold it, and do not stop at the first nice-looking spot.
Everyone stops at the first nice-looking spot.
Minutes 5–20: the boring part
Wood, stone, food, a bed. Nothing clever. The goal of this stretch is that you
can survive a mistake, not that you are ready to fight.
Eat before you are hungry. Most first deaths on servers like this are not
fights; they are a fall or a creeper at low health because someone was
sprinting on three hunger bars.
Minutes 20–40: dig in
Make a hole and hide the entrance. A first base is not a castle — it is a
place your things are when you are not there.
Two habits worth forming now:
- Do not put everything in one place. Split your storage. Everyone gets
raided eventually; the question is whether it takes everything.
- Do not build a landmark. A tower you can see from far away is a sign
saying "somebody lives here".
Minutes 40–60: decide what you are doing
Now the real choice.
Alone? Then your plan is to be hard to find. Stay far out, stay quiet,
build slowly, do not fight anybody you did not plan to fight.
With people? Then post in Looking for a team or a base partner in
General, or ask on Discord. Two people at full hearts beat one person at full
hearts. That is not a strategy tip, it is just the mechanic.
Things not to do in your first hour
- Chase someone. You do not know the terrain and they probably do.
- Announce where you are in chat.
- Post a screenshot with recognisable landmarks in it.
- Assume the person being friendly is being friendly. They might be. It costs
nothing to be careful for a week.
When you die anyway
You will. Everyone does. You are down a heart, not out of the game — and the
person who took it now has a reason to be somewhere you know about.
