Ordered by how often each one turns out to be the actual cause. Do them in
order — the first three cover most cases.
1. Check the address
play.ggnetwork.rip
No port, no https://, no trailing space. A copied address with an invisible
space at the end is the single most common cause and it looks exactly like a
server being down.
2. Check your version
The network runs on 1.21+. Older clients get through ViaVersion; the
supported range is 1.7.2 – 1.21.x.
If you are on something outside that range, or on a snapshot, that is your
answer. Switch to a current release and try again.
3. Check Discord
If the server is actually down, it is already being discussed there.
https://discord.gg/PfhFcQrYUu
This is step three rather than step one because most of the time the server is
fine — but when it is not, this saves you the rest of the list.
4. Restart the client
Not a joke. Minecraft caches DNS and server status per session; a client that
has been open for hours will sometimes keep showing a stale failure after the
server is back.
5. Check your own network
- Try your phone's hotspot. If it works there, the problem is your network,
not ours.
- School, work and some university networks block game ports outright.
- A VPN can also be the cause rather than the fix.
6. Remove and re-add the server entry
A corrupted entry in the server list survives restarts and looks like an
outage.
What to send if none of that works
Post here or on Discord with:
- Your Minecraft version and whether it is vanilla or a modded launcher.
- The exact error text, copied.
- Whether it also fails on another network.
- Roughly when you tried, with a timezone.
What the error usually means
| Message | Usually |
|---|---|
| Unknown host / cannot resolve | Typo in the address, or your DNS |
| Connection timed out | Your network, or the server is genuinely down |
| Outdated client / outdated server | Version mismatch — see step 2 |
| Connection refused | Server not running — check Discord |
| Disconnected on join | Something account-side; post here |
