What this is, and what it is not

Most products in this category put this at position six of a twelve-question FAQ, below the fold, collapsed. After the purchase it is worthless. It belongs here, said plainly, before anyone pays.

It is a starting point for a conversation

Public records hold what was filed, in the counties that publish, under a name spelled a certain way. That is a thin slice of a person. Used well, it gives you two or three specific things to ask about on a first date. Used badly, it replaces asking.

It is not a background check

It is not a consumer report, a tenant screening report, an employment screening report or a safety determination, and it must never be used to decide about employment, housing, credit, insurance, education or government benefits. Those decisions are regulated for good reason: they carry rights to see, dispute and correct what was said about you. This does not.

That is not a disclaimer to click past. It is the reason the product is built the way it is — if a report cannot carry those rights, it must not carry that weight.

An empty file proves nothing

Most people most of the time have nothing in public records. Most harm between partners is never reported, never charged and never filed. A clean result means the records are clean — it does not mean the person is safe, and this product will never say that it does.

Records are wrong more often than you would like

Name matching attaches the wrong file to the wrong person routinely. Dismissed and expunged matters keep surfacing after they should not. Addresses go stale for years. That is why every line here carries its source and its date, why the identity strip is free, and why the “this is not them” button gives the credit straight back.

And it must never be used to find someone

Not for tracking, stalking, harassing or showing up anywhere. Street numbers and workplace addresses stay masked; revealing one asks for a reason and is logged. In the real product the person in the file can see that log. In this demo it stays in your browser.
